Have You Considered An Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are a great alternative opportunity for people seeking to invest their own time and energy into improving their employable skills.

The UK has been placing a great deal of effort behind these types of schemes lately (you mave have seen the TV ads with Alan Sugar).

As employees, apprentices work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off-the-job, usually on a day release basis, apprentices receive training with a local training provider such as a college.

Apprentices will earn while they learn and will gain practical and transferable skills whilst keeping their options open. Career progression for apprentices is excellent and over the course of their career they can earn on average £100,000 more than those who don’t do an Apprenticeship.

You can learn more about UK Apprenticeship schemes here and keep an eye open for the latest and greatest by regularly browsing the employer profiles on www.bejant.com.

Recording A Successful Video CV

We all know how critical it is to present your skills and background properly in written form, and to be honest, there are millions of websites online that can help you with that.

However, new to the market, and gaining lots of interest from Employers, is the Video CV. These are not quite YouTube videos, but rather they are glimpses into your character and skill set. This doesn't mean they need to be boring though.

By filming in interesting locations, using 'props' or even by interviewing professionals who know you or have worked with you leaves lots of space for creativity. That being said, no matter what device or format you chose to make your film with, there's some basic content you really ought to cover. This includes:

1. Introduction
Who you are? Where you are from? What are you looking for? You do not need to indicate your age or lifestyle preferences here.

2. Education
Keep it brief. Focus on your qualifications as well as any awards or other achievements.

3. Experience
What experience you have gained from previous roles. Focus on skills.

4. Ambitions
What you are looking for? What is your ideal role? Where would you like to be in 5 years?

5. Differentiators
What sets you apart from other candidates? E.g. specialised skills, experience, achievements, language

6. Close
Thank your audience for viewing your Video CV and end with a call to action e.g. "please contact me if you think I can be a valuable asset to your team"

Try your best to speak naturally and clearly and dress roughly how you would for an interview (unless circumstances dictate otherwise). If all you have is a webcam or mobile phone camera, then keep your format nice and simple - just you speaking to camera in a decently lit room with no background noise. If you are used to taking video and possibly even editing, then by all means, be more adventurous!

You can upload your Video CV now by visiting your profile at www.bejant.com.

News Release - Video CVs Find Their Audience

.
Young professionals changing the way they search for opportunites online

Bejant, the professional careers network, has announced that it has seen a surge in the creation of video profiles since the advent of the recent economic troubles.

Bejant, a new online job seeking website, is one of only a handful of services to offer the ability to create Digital CVs that include a video element. In recent months, the company has seen a surge of video uploads as the economic crisis worsens and people explore new and innovative ways to convey their skills to potential employers.

Bejant, the professional careers network, has announced that it has seen a surge in the creation of video profiles since the advent of the recent economic troubles.

Aimed partly at the emerging population of "digital natives" who have grown up with profiles on social networks such as Facebook and Bebo, Bejant encourages the use of tags and the building of personalised "career communitees" in order to help its users find the ideal opportunity - from Part Time work and Apprenticeships through to Volunteer positions and Mentoring opportunities.

Glenn Bishop, Bejant Co-Founder, commented, "Many of today's new graduates already have at least one online presence on a social netowork, but snowboarding videos are not necessarily what employers are looking for in a Digital CV. We created Bejant to give people the chance to establish a truly professional online profile that will help them find the right job with the right organisation even in these very tough economic times."

Bejant uses rich-media, intelligent tagging and social web elements to increase matching efficiencies, improve searches and reduce hiring times for job seekers and employers alike.

Bejant is free for job seekers and offers innovative payment packages for employers and currently offers free opportunity listings for all registered UK charities.

News Release - Bejant Expands Service To Power The Professional Lifecycle

.
Bejant (which when pronounced in Chinese means 'has to be the best') inspires people to achieve their full potential by building and controlling the relationships that define their professional life - from selecting the optimal education through to mentoring the next generation.

video

Operating as an online service in the recruitment market, by bringing together the technological advances of the interactive web with the increasing demands of recruiting companies. Bejant.com provides a rich environment for candidates and recruiters alike, allowing job seekers to identify the companies they really want to work for, and for companies to find the talent they need across the broadest possible spectrum, ranging from internships and temporary assignments to full time employment opportunities. All users can index, search, and interact with each other using the well understood principles of social networking sites.

In the current economic climate there are an increasing number of jobseekers in all categories and the government is launching various initiatives (such as the recently announced ‘new deal for graduates’ - see http://www.bejant.com/go/newdeal for more details) to smoke out as publicise as many opportunities as possible out. This aligns exactly with what Bejant are trying to achieve, and put’s the site centre stage in helping people chart a path through the current economic haze.

Because of the rich nature of Bejant's profiles, employers are able to get a much better feel for candidates before short listing them and our business model encourages them to post as many opportunities as possible. This approach significantly reduces both the cost and time of recruiting the best candidates across a much wider range of sectors than they would typically consider, and makes it practical for the first time for them to post internships and short term assignments cost effectively without having to pay several hundred pounds up front to advertise.

Despite the current ‘credit crunch’ Bejant are getting an increasing number of new opportunities posted on the site (last week for example it was over 150) and quickly picking up a ‘word of mouth’ reputation as the place to go to manage your professional lifecycle.

All you need to do to personally benefit is sign in at http://www.bejant.com/user/login and fill in your profile. It only takes a few seconds and this will automatically bring you to the attention of the increasing number of employers and professionals using Bejant. Don’t worry about filling in your whole profile straight away if you haven't got the time. You can add to it at any point. Just fill in the key details.. but include your Qualifications, Work Experience, Additional Achievements and Career Goals to maximize your visibility in search results.

Having completed your profile, we'd encourage you to explore the site and invite your contacts and friends to join you to maximize your initial networking opportunities . You can do this by using the built in functionality at http://www.bejant.com/import/emails or by editing this news release as you see fit and forwarding it on.

Also, you may want to ‘market’ yourself by referring people to your profile in your email signature. You can do this simply by using the promotional badges at http://www.bejant.com/document/badges.

SIgn in and find out more at www.bejant.com.

Video CV vs normal CV

I have seen Bejant and I think it's a good idea. I think the real differentiator will be how people develop their video profiles. At the very least this will be someone reading from their CV, this is where I think this comes into it's own.

This is a chance for people to break out of the structured approach that is a CV. Be a little different, reveal something else about who you are and what you are passionate about - let that carry through. You never know you may get hired because of this.........
